As Reduzia walked into the farm, she was greeted by a group of smiling faces, all eager to welcome her to the party. She saw that it was a coming of age party for a halfling family, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and possibility in the air.
She saw a young halfling named Gilby Goodbarrel surrounded by his friends, a human named Savean and a gnome cleric of Dionysus named Ethan. Gilby’s mother stood by his side, her face a mix of pride and concern. Reduzia could see that she was proud of her son’s accomplishments, but she was also worried about the dangers that lay ahead as he set out on his journey as an adventurer.
As Reduzia watched the festivities, she saw a shy young woman wearing a brown coat and a pirate hat wrapped in bandages standing at the edge of the party, seeming unsure if she should join in. The woman’s name was Irena, and she was a wizard.
Gilby’s mother saw Irena standing alone and she approached her, offering her a warm welcome and inviting her to sit down and join the feast. Reduzia could see that Irena was grateful for the mother’s kindness, and wondered if the wizard would make a good friend.
As Reduzia and Irena sat together at the feast, Gilby’s mother asked Reduzia about her adventures. Reduzia told her that she had lost her memory while adventuring. Upon hearing this she brought them to meet her son.
”This is Reduzia,” Gilby’s mother said, introducing her to her son. “She’s an adventurer who lost her memory while on a quest. Can you imagine? All that bravery and determination, and she can’t even remember how it all happened.”
Gilby smiled awkwardly and replied telepathically to his mother, “Mom. You’re embarrassing me.”
Reduzia chuckled at Gilby’s embarrassment and said, “It’s okay, Gilby. Your mother is just proud of you and your accomplishments.”
Gilby’s mother nodded and replied, “Of course, dear. I want you to be safe and successful on your journey. That’s why I’ve arranged with the town’s hall of quests to reserve an easy one for you to start with. I want you to have the best chance possible to succeed.” and then she wandered off to mingle with the other guests.
Just then a tall, burly halfling with a thick beard approached them. He was Gilby’s uncle, and he had just arrived in town for the coming of age party.
”Ahoy there, nephew!” Gilby’s uncle exclaimed, clapping Gilby on the back. “I’ve got a special surprise for you. Your great-grandfather Mulbin was quite the adventurer in his day, and he left a scroll for you to inherit when you became an adventurer yourself. Here it is, my boy!”
Gilby’s uncle handed Gilby a yellowed scroll that was tied with a ribbon. Gilby eagerly unrolled it and read through the instructions, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
”This is amazing, Uncle!” Gilby said. “I’ll make sure to follow these instructions and claim my inheritance. Thank you for bringing this to me!”
”You’re welcome, my boy,” Gilby’s uncle replied with a smile. “I’m proud of you, and I know that you’ll make your ancestors proud as well. You’ve got the courage and determination of a true adventurer, and I have no doubt that you’ll make a name for yourself in the world.”
Reduzia knew that she had found valuable allies and she was grateful to have made such good connections at the party. She knew that she still had a long journey ahead of her, but she felt more hopeful and confident as a member of this new group that was forming.
